MelodyMind Privacy Policy

This document explains how the MelodyMind mobile application (“the app”) handles information when you use it. The app is operated by Morgan Johansson Cropper (“we”, “us”), based in Sweden.
We tried to keep this short and readable. If anything is unclear, email us at melody.mind.quiz@gmail.com.
What we collect
When you use MelodyMind, the following data is stored:
On your device only (never sent anywhere):
- A display name you choose (can be a pseudonym; we don’t verify it)
- A 4-digit discriminator (e.g.
Mojo#4729) generated locally
- Your local high scores per music pack
- Your settings (sound effects on/off, last played pack)
On our backend (Google Firebase), only if you use online features:
- An anonymous account identifier generated by Firebase — a random UUID with no link to your real identity, your Google account, or any contact information
- Your chosen display name and discriminator
- Your game scores per pack, with timestamps, used to populate online leaderboards
- A random 8-character invitation code, and (if you redeemed a friend’s invite) the inviter’s code
- The number of friends who have redeemed your invite
- A flag indicating whether you have purchased the PRO tier (when in-app purchases launch)
What we do NOT collect:
- Your real name, email, address, phone number, or any contact information
- Your location
- Your contacts, camera, microphone, photos, files, or anything else on your device
- Persistent device identifiers (no IMEI, no advertising ID, no MAC address)
- Browsing history, usage of other apps, or any cross-app tracking
- Any third-party analytics or advertising data — we do not use Firebase Analytics, Google AdMob, Crashlytics, Facebook SDK, or any tracker
How we use this data
The data above is used solely to:
- Run gameplay (track scores, avoid repeating recently-heard tracks)
- Display online leaderboards if you choose to participate
- Process referral invites between users
- Recognise your PRO purchase across reinstalls (when in-app purchases launch)
We do not sell, rent, share, trade, or otherwise disclose your data. We do not use it for marketing, advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than running the game.
Legal basis (GDPR)
If you are in the EU/UK, we process your data under the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the gameplay and online features you signed up for
- Legitimate interests — to keep the leaderboards working, prevent abuse, and validate referrals
Third-party services
The app uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Google Firebase (Authentication + Firestore) — stores your anonymous identifier, display name, scores, and referral data. Google Privacy Policy
- Apple iTunes Search API — when you play a music pack, the app sends song titles and artist names (public catalogue information) to Apple to fetch song metadata and 30-second audio previews. No user-identifying data is sent. Apple Privacy Policy
- Google Play Install Referrer / Google Play Billing — Google Play passes a referral code to the app on install if you arrived via a referral link, and Google handles all payment processing for PRO purchases. We never see your payment information. Google Play Privacy Policy
These services may collect standard technical data (such as your IP address and device type) as part of normal network operation. We have no access to that data.
Data retention
- Local data stays on your device until you uninstall the app or use “Clear local highscores” in the Settings screen.
- Online data stays in Firebase as long as your anonymous account exists. To request deletion, see “Your rights” below.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, UK, or another region with similar privacy laws, you have the right to:
- Access the data we store about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your data (“right to erasure”)
- Object to processing
- Receive a portable copy of your data
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Sweden: Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY))
To exercise any of these rights, email melody.mind.quiz@gmail.com with the display name + discriminator shown in the app’s Settings screen (for example Mojo#4729). We will respond within 30 days.
You can also delete your local data at any time via Settings → “Clear local highscores”, or by uninstalling the app.
Children’s privacy
MelodyMind is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app and we have stored data about them, email us and we will delete it promptly.
Data security
Data in transit between the app and Firebase is encrypted with TLS. Firebase data at rest is encrypted by Google. We do not have access to any user’s payment information — payments are handled entirely by Google Play.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the “Effective date” at the top and, where reasonable, notify users via the app’s settings or the store listing. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
